Motorcycle Maintenance Essentials

A Well-Maintained Motorcycle Is a Trustworthy Companion

The most reliable motorcycle in the world becomes unreliable without attention. This is not a criticism of any particular brand – even the most bullet-proof Honda or Yamaha in our fleet requires regular checking to perform at its best. The good news is that the checks that matter most take less than five minutes before every ride, and the habits that prevent the majority of roadside problems are simple enough that any rider can adopt them immediately.

At Moto Andro, our workshop prepares every motorcycle before it goes out. Tyres are checked and replaced when required, fluids are at the correct levels, chains are lubricated and tensioned, brakes are inspected and lights are tested. But knowing what to look for yourself – especially on a multi-day tour – is knowledge that every rider benefits from.

The Five-Minute Pre-Ride Check That Matters

Before every ride, check five things: tyres (visual inspection for correct pressure and any visible damage), lights (front, rear and indicators), chain (correctly tensioned and visibly lubricated – a dry hanging chain is an emergency), brakes (both levers offer firm resistance before reaching the grip), and fuel (check the level before any ride covering more than 100 km).

None of these checks requires tools or mechanical knowledge. They require only the habit of doing them before you put on the helmet. In the combined riding experience within the Moto Andro team, the vast majority of roadside problems we have encountered could have been avoided with exactly this five-minute routine.

What to Do If Something Goes Wrong on Tour

Even well-maintained motorcycles occasionally develop problems on tour, particularly on demanding mountain roads. The two most common issues are punctures and chain problems. A tubeless tyre repair kit can fix most punctures in fifteen minutes at the roadside. Every Moto Andro rental comes with emergency contact information and roadside assistance support for issues that cannot be resolved by the rider.

If you are riding one of our motorcycles and you encounter a problem, call us immediately. We will either talk you through a solution, send assistance or bring a replacement vehicle. This is what the support system is for. Ride with confidence; we have you covered.
