The Adriatic Highway

Route D8 – One of Europe's Most Beautiful Roads

The Adriatic Highway (D8) from Split toward Dubrovnik consistently ranks among the finest rides in Europe. The road hugs clifftops above the sea, passes through tiny coastal villages, and delivers island views and sunsets that genuinely take your breath away.

The full route from Split to Dubrovnik covers around 230 km and can be completed in roughly three hours without stopping. Of course, no real motorcyclist ever rides that route without stopping – plan at least six to eight hours for the full experience.

Must-Stop Points Along the Way

Omiš: the Mirabela fortress perched above the mouth of the Cetina river. Brela: the iconic Punta Rata cove with its white pebbles and pine trees dropping straight into turquoise water. Makarska: a lively harbour promenade, ideal for lunch by the sea. Neum: Bosnia's only sea access and a great spot for a short break. Ston: the saltpans and some of the finest fresh oysters in the Adriatic. Dubrovnik: the crown jewel at the end of your ride.

Moto Andro recommends leaving Split early in the morning (7–8 AM) to avoid summer traffic and arrive in Dubrovnik in time for sunset.

Practical Tips for the Highway

Fuel: petrol stations are available in every larger town along the route. Parking in Dubrovnik is cheaper for motorcycles than for cars, but it fills up fast in summer. The transit through Neum (Bosnian territory) requires no visa for EU citizens, but you'll need a valid passport or national ID card.

Vehicle: the Honda Forza 350, Yamaha Xmax 300 and Honda NX 500 are all excellent choices for this route – every one of them available at Moto Andro for one-day or multi-day rental.
