Legally Required
Croatia's traffic laws are straightforward, but a few local specifics catch tourists off guard. Helmets are mandatory for both rider and passenger with no exceptions, and headlights must be on at all times, day and night.
Speed limits run 50 km/h in towns, 90 km/h on open roads, and 130 km/h on highways unless posted otherwise, with zero tolerance for riding under the influence.
What We Recommend Beyond the Law
A riding jacket with armor is worth wearing even in summer heat — road rash risk is real at any speed. Gloves matter too, since hands are the first thing riders put out in a fall.
Closed shoes rather than sandals, and sunglasses or a visor for glare on coastal roads, round out a sensible kit.
Croatia-Specific Notes
Roundabouts are common in Split — vehicles already inside have priority. Cobblestone streets in the old town get slippery when wet, so reduce speed through them, and some coastal roads narrow suddenly near villages.
Every Moto Andro rental includes a certified helmet at no extra cost, with jackets and gloves available to rent or borrow if you didn't bring your own.
